Mozilla has announced that it will launch a program named `Directory Tiles’ and is on its way to delivering sponsored content slots to latest Firefox users. The new browser tab will display nine tiles populate by the frequent visits of webpage and a new Firefox user will be presented with a pile of blank tiles which would be useless since the new tab would not be delivering any value to them.

Directory Tiles instead will be suggesting pre packaged content for the new users and some of the tile placement will be coming from the Mozilla ecosystem. While some of the contents will be from popular sites in a given geographic location, others will be sponsored contents from handpicked partner as a means of support for Mozilla’s pursuit of mission.
Mozilla, more Diversified and Sustainable
Mozilla states that the Directory Tiles has an inherent value for users helping Mozilla to become more sustainable and diversified. There is a possibility that some users will also see this as black and white, as a once a free product, displaying advertisement. Mozilla has always been at the forefront of user advocacy right from developing open Flash alternatives to blocking tracking cookies and has a record of making decision keeping the user in mind. Speculations are on that this move of advertising will not ruin the trust that the team has worked its way in building it.

Modern Device- An Impossibility to get away from ads
It is impossible to get way from advertisement on modern devices and both PS4 as well as Xbox One feature some prominent ads placement together with Chrome which is operated by the world’s largest advertising company. Ads are the most easiest way in generating revenue for the project unless Mozilla plans to launch a Wikipedia inspired pan handling campaign..

Besides, Mozilla has already made substantial amount of revenue from partnerships with search engines. We have to wait and watch to see how these sponsored tiles will be implemented and it is unknown to what level of intrusion will Mozilla tolerate in its web browser. Till the sponsored tiles remain clearly label, to pay a small price for such a progressive and user focused browser seems valid. Hoping that Mozilla will make responsible decision for the present and hold off on the panic attack till we see the quality of the final advertisement
