Here are three tricks to remember information, especially at seminars and conferences

It’s all in your head. No, really—your capacity to remember the name of a new investment company, which products are going to present the fiercest competition for your startup, and how to find that bistro downtown where you are meeting a new employee is part of the untapped potential in your brain. Let’s dispense with the old “non-truism” that we have only tapped 10% of the capacity in our brains. Cognitive scientists doubt that’s true.
What is true, though, is this. You can teach yourself to remember details about your day and recall that information when you need it most. Like, say, when you are about to present the case for why someone should invest in your company or that the new employee in your company is named Greg. I’ve used these tricks before, especially during business conferences when I can’t jot down a reminder or record a memo on my phone.
1. Say the Information Out Loud Five or Six Times
I can’t say there is any proven science behind this trick, but I have used it many times at CES in Las Vegas each year when I really wanted to remember a new company name. There’s something about saying the information out loud a few times that works for me.
You might repeat the name and location of a new investment company, or the widget you noticed on the show floor. It seems to help if the name is unusual, like Twitch or Uber. Maybe it’s because you are hearing the information and speaking it or because you are isolating that information in your brain as separate from things you’ve read and only heard. Either way, it works.
2. Associate the Information With One Other Thing
I recently had a meeting near downtown San Francisco and, just as I was driving to the location across town, I realized the GPS on my phone was directing me to the wrong address in the same area.
I didn’t have time (or the guts) to pull over in heavy traffic to look up the company name, but it wasn’t a huge problem. I had memorized the street name. It’s a good backup technique I use, because this seems to happen quite a bit. The company was on Gilbert Street. When I read the address at my hotel, I thought about the composers Gilbert and Sullivan and how they made comic operas way back in the 1800s. I’m not sure why, since I’m not even a fan of their work, but it worked. I spoke the street name to Siri on my iPhone and set that as the new destination in San Francisco. Eureka, instant recall. And, close enough—it’s a short street.
3. Create a List of Items With the Thing You Want to Remember on the List
This one last trick I use at business conferences and seminars routinely. Sometimes, it helps to take a bit of information you want to remember—like the name of a new mobile app or a new contact—and mentally make a list of a few other related items.
Let’s say you want to remember the name Lyst, the fashion site that is creating buzz in the mobile shopping space. You’d create a list (no pun intended) of other well-known retailers, such as Macy’s and Best Buy, and then recite the list. Maybe it’s the fact that we all make shopping lists for eggs and milk or the fact that our brains remember information in lists better than isolated items. (That might even explain the incredible popularity of list articles like this one!) I’ve used this trick before, and it works, especially if the items are a bit unusual.

Everyone is obsessed with the habits of the wealthy these days. The great irony is, if successful people concerned themselves with that sort of nonsense they never would have made it big in the first place. Truth is, none of that stuff matters. It’s all just a waste of time and focus.
If you want to be successful, you have to learn what really makes a difference. What really matters. You need to do that and keep the distractions – everything that doesn’t matter – to a minimum. Now I’ll tell you what matters but I’ve got to warn you: it’s really simple. But then, all great lessons in life are simple.
What matters is what you do. How do you figure out what to do? Strangely enough, you figure out what to do by doing. By …
  • Getting out into the world, getting a job, experiencing and learning.
  • Figuring out how business works.
  • Learning what you like to do and what you’re good at – your strengths to leverage and weaknesses to overcome.
  • Gaining confidence from your successes and wisdom from your failures.
  • Meeting smart people, asking good questions and listening to what they have to say.
  • Figuring out what it takes to be a good employee and how to motivate and manage others.
  • Learning what works and what doesn’t work in the real world.
  • Putting yourself out there so you’re aware of opportunities and maybe even create your own luck.
  • Understanding that it’s all completely and entirely up to you – nobody else can do it for you and nobody is holding you back, either.
  • Having your priorities straight, the work ethic to always get the job done, and the discipline to focus on what matters and not on what doesn’t.

It always comes down to the same thing. Doing what matters. That’s exactly how world-class companies like GE and P&G breed hundreds, if not thousands, of entrepreneurs who found tomorrow’s startups and CEOs that turn good companies into great ones: on-the-job experience.
Now I’ll tell you what doesn’t matter. What doesn’t matter is what everyone else says and does. That’s right; none of it matters. Not a word. Of course, the exception is the people you come across in your real-world experience. If you get out in the world and do things, you will inevitably meet and learn from thousands of people. That’s 99 percent of the wisdom you’ll need. No kidding.
Here’s another way to look at it. Let’s talk about spheres of influence. The popular wisdom of the day is that everyone should have these enormous spheres of communication and social networks, the bigger the better.
Popular wisdom is wrong and I’ll tell you why.
Social networking – tweeting, posting, linking, blogging, too – is what I call “one-to-many” communication. The level of interaction and quality of communication is lousy because a billion people are all doing the same thing so nobody has the bandwidth to read but a tiny fraction of what shows up in their stream.
That’s why the vast majority of online interaction is a complete waste of time. Everything you post just bounces around the Web and nothing ever really comes of it. Nothing that matters, anyway. It’s like throwing a bucket of water into the ocean. Sure, there’s more water in the ocean now, but so what?
Also, whatever you learn online is visible to everyone so it provides no competitive advantage whatsoever.
The way to be successful is to keep your sphere of influence small and focused. How small and focused? That depends. Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates wrote code. Richard Branson sold records. Their spheres were relatively small and extremely focused in the early days of their careers while they were building their businesses. Then they grew in time. That’s usually how it works.
It basically comes down to this: You do want to broaden your sphere but you want to broaden it by doing what matters, not by wasting your time on what doesn’t matter.
Not only does reading about rich people’s habits not matter, the same is true of the vast majority of what you do online. And if they wasted their time with all that stuff, wealthy people would never have become wealthy to begin with. The only thing successful people do that matters is focus on doing what matters. Simple as that.

Linseed flour_Kefir_body_cleanse

Back when my parents were kids, they didn't have the information that we do today. Drink coca cola, smoke cigarettes, cook with lard; it was all perfectly safe. It would be decades before we really understood any of the negative effects of eating bad things and having bad habits.

But today more than ever, people are fixated on doing right by their bodies; taking care to eat foods that empower each individual organ, sometimes each tissue, to work at its most efficient. One of those organs we need to care for are our intestines.

In 70 years, your intestines pass 100 tons of food and 40,000 liters of fluid. Talk about a hard working organ! Every once in a while, it's good to do a cleanse and make sure that your colon is clean and maintains a healthy flora of bacteria. This is an easy, two-ingredient recipe, that will help give you a good cleansing.

You will need:
  • Linseed flour
  • Kefir
What you'll want to do is consume this instead of breakfast each morning for three weeks. During the first week, mix 1 tablespoon of linseed flour with 100 ml of kefir. During week two, mix 2 tablespoons of linseed flour in 100 ml of kefir. During the third week, mix 3 tablespoons of linseed flour in with 150 ml of kefir. When you make this mixture, take care not to make enough for more than two or three days. The flour spoils relatively quickly when mixed with kefir.

After three weeks, your colon should be in a healthier spot, and so will you!

It's never an easy task to invest in stock markets, either directly or through mutual funds. You have to pick the right fund-house, scheme and the timing right to get the desired returns.

Here are 5 important things to check before you invest in the best mutual funds in India.

1. Your age and ability to take risk
The most important thing while investing in a mutual fund India is to check your age and ability to take risk. If you are in the 30s, you might want to take a risk by investing in equity mutual funds. On the other hand if you are in the 50s, you might want to invest in debt oriented mutual funds, which can offer almost certain fixed returns without your capital being eroded.

2.Track record for best performing mutual fund
Take a look at the track record of the fund and check how the fund has performed over 5 to 19 years period. If the fund has not performed well in the past, then you might want to avoid the scheme altogether.

3.Asset allocation
Some schemes invest in debt, while others invest in equity and some balanced fund. If you like taking a risk go for equities, otherwise just buy a fund that puts all its money in corporate bonds, bank deposits, certificates of deposits or government securities.

4.Size of the mutual fund corpus and expenses
The larger the mutual fund corpus the better it is. This is because there are certain fixed costs, which will be spreader over the larger corpus and thus help to reduce costs.

5.Entry and Exit load
Each time you invest in a mutual fund scheme, there is a possibility that you would like to sell the same. When you buy or sell, there is an entry as well as exit load that is levied, which is nothing, but the charges that would be applicable to you. Not all top mutual fund schemes charge an exit load. But look out for those funds which charge lower entry load.

We have already seen mutual funds investments have yielded steady and excellent returns over many years, instead of investing directly in stocks. Your investment and returns, depends on your own need and objective.
Be a wise investor!

” People always say health is the most important thing but how many people live by this belief? We need to start today. In order to help us stay on the path to health I have translated an extract from one of the Shaolin Classics. Written by a monk who was a great martial artist and scholar, here he gives advice to lay people as to how to stay young and healthy. ”
Ten Tips From A Shaolin Monk On How To Stay Young
1) Don’t think too much. Thinking takes energy. Thinking can make you look old.
2) Don’t talk too much. Most people either talk or do. Better to do.
3) When you work, work for 40 minutes then stop for 10 minutes. When you look at something all the time, it can damage your eyes and also your internal organs and peace.
4) When you are happy, you need to control your happiness, if you lose control then you damage your lung energy.
5) Don’t worry too much or get angry because this damages your liver and your intestines.
6) When you eat food don’t eat too much, always make sure you are not quite full as this can damage your spleen. When you feel a bit hungry then eat a little.
7) When you do things, take your time, don’t hurry too much. Remember the saying “Hasten slowly you will soon arrive.”
8) If you only do physical exercise all the time and you never do Qigong this makes you lose your balance and you will become impatient. You lose the Yin of your body. Exercise balances the Yin and the Yang.
9) If you never exercise, just peace, meditation, soft training, Qigong, then this doesn’t give you Yang energy so you use up your Yang energy.
10) Shaolin Gong Fu gives you everything. The purpose of our training is to balance our Yin and Yang. How many hours is not important. It’s down to knowing what your body needs.

Start a Business of  Coconut Milk Beverage

What is Coconut Milk ?
Coconut milk is the liquid that comes from the grated meat of a brown coconut. It should not be confused with Coconut water. The colour and rich taste of coconut milk can be attributed to the high oil content. Most of the fat is saturated fat. Coconut milk is a very popular food ingredient used in Southeast Asia.

Production

Traditionally coconut milk is acquired through grating the coconut flesh, and then mix it with small amount of water to dissolve the coconut's whitish fatty content. The grating process could be done in traditional manual way or using grating machine. Several grades of coconut milk exist: from thick at 20-22% fat to thin at 5-7% fat level. Thick milk can be prepared by directly squeezing grated coconut meat through cheesecloth. The squeezed coconut meat is then soaked in warm water and squeezed a second or third time for thin coconut milk. Thick milk is mainly used to make desserts as well as rich and dry sauces. Thin milk is used for soups and general cooking. This distinction is usually not made in Western nations since fresh coconut milk is rare, and most consumers buy coconut milk in cans.
Coconut water is the watery liquid that usually comes from the young, still immature green coconut, although mature coconuts also have coconut water. Often the still jelly-like coconut meat is also added to make a tropic drink.
Coconut milk can be made at home by processing grated coconut with hot water or milk, which extracts the oil and aromatic compounds. It has then a fat content of 17-24% depending on the fat level of the coconut meat and the quantity of added water. When refrigerated and left to set, coconut cream will rise to the top and separate out from the milk. To avoid this in commercial sold coconut milk, an emulsifier(s) and a stabiliser(s) have to be used.

Canned Coconut Milk

Manufacturers of canned coconut milk typically combine thin and thick milk, with the addition of water as a filler.
Depending on the brand and age of the milk itself, a thicker, more paste-like consistency floats to the top of the can, and is sometimes separated and used inrecipes that require coconut cream rather than coconut milk. Shaking the can prior to opening will even it out to a creamy thickness. Some brands sold in Western countries add thickening agents and/or emulsifiers to prevent the milk from separating inside the can, since the separation tends to be misinterpreted as an indicator of spoilage by people unfamiliar with coconut milk.Once opened, cans of coconut milk must be refrigerated and are usually only good for a few days. If not, the milk can sour and spoil easily.

     In food

Fresh coconut milk has a consistency and mildly sweet taste similar to that of cow's milk, and if properly prepared, should have little or no coconut odour. It may be consumed raw by itself, or used as a milk substitute in tea, coffee, or baking by vegans or people allergic to animal milk. It can also be mixed with fruit to make a yoghurt substitute.

In drink

There is a widely popular iced drink called cendol, where a chilled coconut milk will be added with green jellies made of rice flour and sweetened with liquid thick palm sugar. Coconut milk is often used in traditional hot drinks, such as bandrek and bajigur from West Java, Indonesia.

In southern China and Taiwan, sweetened "thin" coconut milk is served on its own as a drink during spring and summer. It is made by adding sugar and evaporated or fresh milk during the process of preparing the coconut milk. Another Chinese drink is coconut milk diluted with water, then mixed with fresh or evaporated milk in a 1:1 ratio and a spoon of condensed milk or sugar for each cup. They are served chilled.

    Market Overview
Packaged coconut water is turning costlier ahead of summer with a sharp rise in coconut prices this season. Bottlers are expecting a 20-25% rise in the demand for coconut water because a harsh summer has been forecast. "We are planning to raise the price by 5% as the prices of tender coconuts have doubled," said CM Kamraj, MD of Sakthi Coconut Products. The Pollachi-based company sells tender coconut water in cans under the brand Tender Coco.

So, quite unexpectedly, my brother found himself, panting, with a cut mouth, a bruised jaw, and bloodstained knuckles, driving along an unknown lane with these two women.

He learned they were the wife and the younger sister of a surgeon living at Stanmore, who had come in the small hours from a dangerous case at Pinner, and heard at some railway station on his way of the Martian advance. He had hurried home, roused the women--their servant had left them two days before--packed some provisions, put his revolver under the seat--luckily for my brother--and told them to drive on to Edgware, with the idea of getting a train there. He stopped behind to tell the neighbours. He would overtake them, he said, at about half past four in the morning, and now it was nearly nine and they had seen nothing of him. They could not stop in Edgware because of the growing traffic through the place, and so they had come into this side lane.

'I know what "it" means well enough, when I find a thing,' said the Duck: 'it's generally a frog or a worm. The question is, what did the archbishop find?'
That was the story they told my brother in fragments when presently they stopped again, nearer to New Barnet. He promised to stay with them, at least until they could determine what to do, or until the missing man arrived, and professed to be an expert shot with the revolver--a weapon strange to him--in order to give them confidence.

Would that I could keep squeezing that sperm for ever! For now, since by many prolonged, repeated experiences, I have perceived that in all cases man must eventually lower, or at least shift, his conceit of attainable felicity; not placing it anywhere in the intellect or the fancy; but in the wife, the heart, the bed, the table, the saddle, the fireside, the country; now that I have perceived all this, I am ready to squeeze case eternally. In thoughts of the visions of the night, I saw long rows of angels in paradise, each with his hands in a jar of spermaceti.

[ads-post] Now, while discoursing of sperm, it behooves to speak of other things akin to it, in the business of preparing the sperm whale for the try-works.

First comes white-horse, so called, which is obtained from the tapering part of the fish, and also from the thicker portions of his flukes. It is tough with congealed tendons—a wad of muscle—but still contains some oil. After being severed from the whale, the white-horse is first cut into portable oblongs ere going to the mincer. They look much like blocks of Berkshire marble.

Then, being prepared for the journey, they all started for the Emerald City; and the Winkies gave them three cheers and many good wishes to carry with them.

  2. "If you mean all that you say you will have ample chance to prove it," she said, "if Jubal does not catch and kill you
  3. I am in your power, and the treatment you accord me will be the best proof of your intentions toward me
  4. I am not your mate, and again I tell you that I hate you, and that I should be glad if I never saw you again
  5. " Dian certainly was candid
  6. There was no gainsaying that
  7. In fact I found candor and directness to be quite a marked characteristic of the cave men of Pellucidar
  8. Finally I suggested that we make some attempt to gain my cave, where we might escape the searching Jubal, for I am free to admit that I had no considerable desire to meet the formidable and ferocious creature, of whose mighty prowess Dian had told me when I first met her

Start a Business of Guar Gam Manufacturing

What is Guar Gum?

Guar gum, also called guaran, is a galactomannan. It is primarily the groundendosperm of guar beans. The guar seeds are dehusked, milled and screened to obtain the guar gum.It is typically produced as a free-flowing, off-white powder. It can be described as a natural food thickener, similar to locust bean gum, cornstarch or tapioca flour. It is said to have significantly more thickening ability than cornstarch, at a fraction of the cost. This has made it a popular additive in products such as puddings and ice creams. Until recently, it was also an ingredient in non-prescription diet pills designed to create a sense of fullness.

Production and Trade

The guar bean is principally grown in India, Pakistan, US, China, Australia and Africa. India produces 2.5 - 3.5 million tons of guar annually, making it the largest producer with about 80% of world production.
Guargum.jpg
In India, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana are the main producing regions, and Jodhpur, Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarhin Rajasthan are the major Guar trading markets. Hanumangarh - Ganganagar  is the main production area for best quality guar beans, so called "Fast-Hydrating Guar".
The United States has produced 4,600 to 14,000 tonnes of guar over the last 5 years. As many as 50,000 acres of guar have been grown in West Texas over the last 50 years.

Manufacturing Process
Guar gum - seeds to powder
Guar Gum powder is manufactured by mechanical extraction from the guar seed endosperm which contains about 80% Galactomannan (gum).
The gum is made from the endosperms of the seed, recovered by hulling the seed and breaking away the endosperms, known as ‘splits’.
The product is traded in the form of splits or powder and, its value is judged by its viscosity, measured in centipoises units abbreviated to ‘cp’. Typically, high-viscosity guar has a higher market price.
Guar gum is obtained by an automatic mechanical process in which first the seed is split into two halves and the hull and the germ is mechanically scraped off to obtain endosperm. Refined guar splits are obtained by splitting the guar seed into two halves and dehusking and polishing the grains.
These splits are then pulverized and tailor made for usage in different industries. The endosperm thus obtained is further purified and grounded into powder of required granulation and viscosity.
After pulverization, sieving is done to get the required mesh.
The sieved gum is then passed through blenders to make it homogenous.
State-of-the-art plants are capable of producing several grades of guar gum ranging from very low to very high viscosity and from coarse to fine granulation.

Industrial Applications

  • Textile industry – sizing, finishing and printing
  • Paper industry – improved sheet formation, folding and denser surface for printing
  • Explosives industry – as waterproofing agent mixed with ammonium nitrate, nitroglycerin, etc.
  • Pharmaceutical industry – as binder or as disintegrator in tablets; main ingredient in some bulk-forming laxatives
  • Cosmetics and toiletries industries – thickener in toothpastes, conditioner in shampoos (usually in a chemically modified version)
  • Hydraulic fracturing Shale oil and gas extraction industries consumes about 90% of guar gum produced from India and Pakistan.
  • Mining
  • Hydroseeding – formation of seed-bearing "guar tack"
  • Medical institutions, especially nursing homes - used to thicken liquids and foods for patients with dysphagia
  • Fire retardant industry - as a thickener in Phos-Chek
