At the next halt Hooja the Sly One managed to find enough slack chain to permit him to worm himself back quite close to Dian. We were all standing, and as he edged near the girl she turned her back upon him in such a truly earthly feminine manner that I could scarce repress a smile; but it was a short-lived smile for on the instant the Sly One's hand fell upon the girl's bare arm, jerking her roughly toward him.

I was not then familiar with the customs or social ethics which prevailed within Pellucidar; but even so I did not need the appealing look which the girl shot to me from her magnificent eyes to influence my subsequent act. What the Sly One's intention was I paused not to inquire; but instead, before he could lay hold of her with his other hand, I placed a right to the point of his jaw that felled him in his tracks.

A roar of approval went up from those of the other prisoners and the Sagoths who had witnessed the brief drama; not, as I later learned, because I had championed the girl, but for the neat and, to them, astounding method by which I had bested Hooja.

And the girl? At first she looked at me with wide, wondering eyes, and then she dropped her head, her face half averted, and a delicate flush suffused her cheek. For a moment she stood thus in silence, and then her head went high, and she turned her back upon me as she had upon Hooja. Some of the prisoners laughed, and I saw the face of Ghak the Hairy One go very black as he looked at me searchingly. And what I could see of Dian's cheek went suddenly from red to white.

Immediately after we resumed the march, and though I realized that in some way I had offended Dian the Beautiful I could not prevail upon her to talk with me that I might learn wherein I had erred—in fact I might quite as well have been addressing a sphinx for all the attention I got. At last my own foolish pride stepped in and prevented my making any further attempts, and thus a companionship that without my realizing it had come to mean a great deal to me was cut off. Thereafter I confined my conversation to Perry. Hooja did not renew his advances toward the girl, nor did he again venture near me.

Again the weary and apparently interminable marching became a perfect nightmare of horrors to me. The more firmly fixed became the realization that the girl's friendship had meant so much to me, the more I came to miss it; and the more impregnable the barrier of silly pride. But I was very young and would not ask Ghak for the explanation which I was sure he could give, and that might have made everything all right again.

On the march, or during halts, Dian refused consistently to notice me—when her eyes wandered in my direction she looked either over my head or directly through me. At last I became desperate, and determined to swallow my self-esteem, and again beg her to tell me how I had offended, and how I might make reparation. I made up my mind that I should do this at the next halt. We were approaching another range of mountains at the time, and when we reached them, instead of winding across them through some high-flung pass we entered a mighty natural tunnel—a series of labyrinthine grottoes, dark as Erebus.

The guards had no torches or light of any description. In fact we had seen no artificial light or sign of fire since we had entered Pellucidar. In a land of perpetual noon there is no need of light above ground, yet I marveled that they had no means of lighting their way through these dark, subterranean passages. So we crept along at a snail's pace, with much stumbling and falling—the guards keeping up a singsong chant ahead of us, interspersed with certain high notes which I found always indicated rough places and turns.

Halts were now more frequent, but I did not wish to speak to Dian until I could see from the expression of her face how she was receiving my apologies. At last a faint glow ahead forewarned us of the end of the tunnel, for which I for one was devoutly thankful. Then at a sudden turn we emerged into the full light of the noonday sun.

But with it came a sudden realization of what meant to me a real catastrophe—Dian was gone, and with her a half-dozen other prisoners. The guards saw it too, and the ferocity of their rage was terrible to behold. Their awesome, bestial faces were contorted in the most diabolical expressions, as they accused each other of responsibility for the loss. Finally they fell upon us, beating us with their spear shafts, and hatchets. They had already killed two near the head of the line, and were like to have finished the balance of us when their leader finally put a stop to the brutal slaughter. Never in all my life had I witnessed a more horrible exhibition of bestial rage—I thanked God that Dian had not been one of those left to endure it.

"Did I not tell you that we of the ruling class owned all the land, all the forest, everything? Any food-getter who would not get food for us, him we punished or compelled to starve to death. And very few did that. They preferred to get food for us, and make clothes for us, and prepare and administer to us a thousand—a mussel-shell, Hoo-Hoo—a thousand satisfactions and delights. And I was Professor Smith in those days—Professor James Howard Smith. And my lecture courses were very popular—that is, very many of the young men and women liked to hear me talk about the books other men had written.

"And I was very happy, and I had beautiful things to eat. And my hands were soft, because I did no work with them, and my body was clean all over and dressed in the softest garments—
"He surveyed his mangy goat-skin with disgust.
"We did not wear such things in those days. Even the slaves had better garments. And we were most clean. We washed our faces and hands often every day. You boys never wash unless you fall into the water or go swimming."

Albert Einstein's theory of relativity is of two separate theories- Special Theory of Relativity in 1905, it says that the speed of light in vacuum was independent to the motion of all observers and his General Theory of Relativity in 1915 He says that massive objects cause a distortion in space-time,which is felt as gravity

The gravity
Force of attraction between two object is known as gravity  Even as the center of the Earth is pulling you toward it mass and weight are different concepts mass it is the amount of matter contained in a
give body, and it does not vary with the change of its state & weight is the amount of pull, which the earth exerts upon a given body.since the pull varies with the distance of the body from the center of the earth, therefore weight of the body will also vary with its position on the earth’s surfays(say latitude and elevation)Yet Newton's laws assume that gravity is an innate force of an object that can act over a distance.
Scientists have tested this theory through experimentation - proving, for example, that an atomic clock ticks more slowly when traveling at a high speed than it does when it is not moving. The essence of Einstein's paper was that both space and time are relative (rather than absolute), which was said to hold true in a special case, the absence of a gravitational field. Relativity was a stunning concept at the time; scientists all over the world debated the veracity of Einstein's famous equation, E=mc2, which implied that matter and energy were equivalent and, more specifically, that a single particle of matter could be converted into a huge quantity of energy. However, since the special theory of relativity only held true in the absence of a gravitational field, Einstein strove for 10 more years to work gravity into his equations and discover how relativity might work generally as well.

In his theory of special relativity, determined that the speed of light within a vacuum is the same no matter the speed at which an observer travels. As a result, he found that space and time were interwoven into a single continuum known as space-time. Events that occur at the same time for one observer could occur at different times for another.
As he worked out the equations for his general theory of relativity, Einstein realized that massive objects caused a distortion in space-time. Imagine setting a large body in the center of a trampoline. The body would press down into the fabric, causing it to dimple. A marble rolled around the edge would spiral inward toward the body, pulled in much the same way that the gravity of a planet pulls at rocks in space.
Experiment
Although instruments can neither see nor measure space-time, several of the phenomena predicted by its warping have been confirmed.Gravitational lensing: Light around a massive object, such as a black hole, is bent, causing it to act as a lens for the things that lay behind it. Astronomers routinely use this method to study stars and galaxies behind massive objects.
Einstein's Cross, a quasar in the Pegasus constellation, is an excellent example of gravitational lensing. The quasar is about 8 billion light-years from Earth, and sits behind a galaxy that is 400 million light-years away. Four images of the quasar appear around the galaxy because the intense gravity of the galaxy bends the light coming from the quasar.
Changes in the orbit of Mercury: The orbit of Mercury is shifting very gradually over time, due to the curvature of space-time around the massive sun. In a few billion years, it could even collide with the Earth.
Frame-dragging of space-time around rotating bodies: The spin of a heavy object, such as Earth, should twist and distort the space-time around it. In 2004, NASA launched the Gravity Probe B. The precisely calibrated satellite caused the axes of gyroscopes inside to drift very slightly over time, a result that coincided with Einstein's theory.
Gravitational redshift: The electromagnetic radiation of an object is stretched out slightly inside a gravitational field. Think of the sound waves that emanate from a siren on an emergency vehicle; as the vehicle moves toward an observer, sound waves are compressed, but as it moves away, they are stretched out, or redshifted. Known as the Doppler Effect, the same phenomena occurs with waves of light at all frequencies. In 1959, two physicists, Robert Pound and Glen Rebka, shot gamma rays of radioactive iron up the side of a tower at Harvard University and found them to be minutely less than their natural frequency due to distortions caused by gravity.
Gravitational waves: Violent events, such as the collision of two black holes, are thought to be able to create ripples in space-time known as  gravitational  waves. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory is presently searching for the first signs of these tell-tale indicators.
The electromagnetic field can have waves in it that carry energy and that we call light. Likewise, the gravitational field can have waves that carry energy and are called gravitational waves. These may be thought of as ripples in the curvature of spacetime that travel at the speed of light.
Just as accelerating charges can emit electromagnetic waves, accelerating masses can emit gravitational waves. However gravitational waves are difficult to detect because they are very weak and no conclusive evidence has yet been reported for their direct observation. They have been observed indirectly in the binary pulsar. Because the arrival time of pulses from the pulsar can be measured very precisely, it can be determined that the period of the binary systems gradually decreasing. It is found that the rate of period change (about
75 millionths of a second each year) is what would be expected for energy being lost to gravitational radiation, as predicted by the Theory of General Relativity.
For the final thirty years of his life, Einstein attempted to find a unified field theory , in which the properties of all matter and energy could be expressed in a single equation. His search was confounded by quantum theory 's uncertainty principle , which stated that the movement of a single particle could never be
accurately measured, because speed and position could not be simultaneously assessed with any degree of assurance. An USSR stamp dedicated to albert Einstein for his theory of relativity

Regular Physical exercise aremore essential formaintaining good blood flow to the brain as well as to encourage new brain cells. It also can significantly reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke and diabetes, and thereby protect against those risk Factors for Alzheimer’s and other dementia's.

Growing evidence shows that physical exercise does not have to be strenuous or even require a major time commitment. It is most effective when done regularly, and in combination with a brain-healthy diet, adding vegetable’s in your food mental activity and social interaction.
Aerobic exercise improves oxygen consumption, which benefits brain function; aerobic fitness has been found to reduce brain cell loss in elderly subjects. Walking, bicycling, gardening, tai chi, yoga and other activities of about 30 minutes daily get the body moving and the heart pumping.

Physical activities that also involve mental activity meditation, practicing mudras, plotting your route, observing traffic signals, making choices – provide additional value for brain health. And doing these activities with a companion offers the added benefit of social interaction.by making a few simple changes to their lifestyle, such as exercising more and quitting smoking, a new research suggests.
A third of Alzheimer's disease cases worldwide can be attributed to risk factors that can be potentially modified, such as lack of education and physical inactivity, researchers said.Current estimates suggest that by 2050, more than 106 million people will be living with Alzheimer's disease, a huge increase on the 30 million people affected by the disease in 2010, researchers said.
Alzheimer's disease is caused by a complex interplay of genetic and lifestyle factors. Amongst the greatest lifestyle factors are lack of exercise, smoking, poor educational attainment and depression, all of which can be targeted to reduce the risk.practicing pranayama could be help much to over come this disease
A study published in 2011 suggested that as many as one in two cases of Alzheimer's could potentially be prevented by modifying lifestyle factors. However, this study treated the risk factors as being independent of one another. The researchers estimate that by reducing the relative risk from each of these risk factors by 10 per cent, it will be possible to reduce the prevalence of Alzheimer's in 2050 by 8.5 per cent, preventing 9 million cases." Alzheimer's disease is placing an ever increasing burden on health services worldwide as well as on both patients and their careers.
Our hope is that these estimates will help public health professionals health policy makers design effective strategies to prevent and manage this disease,"

An Inverse Index tries to provide inverse return of its underlying index. A broader index provides good
exposure to an economy, an inverse index on a broader index will provide the desired exposure when the
investor is bearish on the markets. We have already seen Alpha and Beta Indices provided by National Stock Exchange of India and now NSE India has introduced few more indices like Nifty TR 1x Inverse Index and Nifty TR 2x Inverse Index.

Nifty TR Inverse Index provides the investor an opportunity to create an position which gives inverse (opposite) returns as compare to Nifty TR Index. The index is designed to provide the inverse performance of the Nifty TR, representing a short position in the index.

Methodology:

Index value calculation -
Nifty TR 1x Inverse Index Value = Previous day’s Nifty TR 1x Inverse Index Value * (1+ Nifty TR 1x Inverse Index Return).

Graphical Representation:

nifty-inverse-index

Similar to Nifty TR 1x Inverse Index, there is one more index namely Nifty TR 2x Inverse Index, which is a Leveraged index is designed to generate multiple time return of the underlying index in situations where the investor borrows funds to generate index exposure beyond his/her cash position.

Hope we can expect Inverse mutual funds soon from Indian Mutual Fund Industry and these indices could act as benchmark to the schemes.

MUMBAI: A report by a thinktank shows that India's investment in science has lagged behind that of neighbouring China, the US and South Korea, resulting in these countries staying ahead when it comes to research.
© civil society
While India invested 0.88 per cent of its GDP in science research, the US invested 7-8 per cent, and South Korea 3-4 percent.Sudheendra Kulkarni said the "tight equation between a degree certificate and education has created several distortions, both in society and in the system of education itself
"Memorization of facts and formulae has triumphed over mastery of concepts, independent and creative thinking, integrative thinking that connects understanding of different subjects, and ability to apply that understanding to solve practical problems of society.". "Theory is prioritized over application and time constraints do not allow teachers to explore all concepts, in depth. As a consequence, students are frequently exposed to many concepts but fail to understand them in depth and explore their application. India is facing two kinds of disconnect: a formal science education pedagogy in colleges that is too theory-based and is disconnected from the practical world; and a large workforce in the informal sector of the economy whose practice is disconnected from
science education.Despite a large tertiary student population, India has not been able to increase the number of PhDs in science and engineering significantly (from 54 per 10 million in 1983 to 70 in( 2004). China, which lagged India until a decade ago, now has 174 science and engineering PhDs per 10 million.
India must invest more in science as its future is linked with it, and the country would change for the better if the government and the private sector increased spending on science education, leading scientist CNR Rao said Sunday.
Rao, who is chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, named for India's highest civil honour, the Bharat Ratna, for his contribution to the field of science.

"India's future is linked with science. More investments will enable the youth to look at science as an important area of work for a great future. Only countries which advanced scientifically made progress, while those who neglected it are not known," Rao told reporters a day after he was conferred the country's highest civilian award.
"It (support) is there, but not enough. We have to improve much more. If India invests in science over the next 10-20 years as much as China and South Korea do, we would be able to make up the lost time and catch up with them. We should have long-term investments in science and plan in advance," Rao said at his home-office located in the green campus of the premier Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in the city centre.
"China and South Korea are doing very well in science because their investment is very high. They want to beat America after already beating Japan. South Korea is ahead of Japan in technology and innovation. I think we should become like that. Invest more in education and science to secure the future of India," Rao noted.
Admitting that the government had not invested enough in basic education and basic science, Rao said if India has to race with China and South Korea in Asia, investment in both (education and science) should go up to six percent of the GDP (gross domestic product) annually.
"As I said, India's future is tied up with the amount of investment the government would make in the coming years, as the contribution of the private sector was only around two percent of the GDP in education and science. We have to double our investment in science to two-three percent from 1-1.5 percent of the GDP," Rao said.
Recalling that in his advisory capacity, he had done his best to further the growth of science and technology, Rao agreed that a lot more needs to be done in capacity building to meet the growing needs of over 1.2 billion people in the country.
"In the last 8-10 years, India has done a lot of good things in science. Five new institutes of science have been set up in Bhopal, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Pune and On technology overtaking science, Rao said unlike in the olden days, technology was developing faster than modern science and the time gap between research and innovation has shortened, especially in nanotechnology where research was turning into technology in a year.

Google Inc is the best placed of any company to benefit from the shift to mobile, increased local advertising and wearable’s, analysts said after the search giant posted its 18th straight quarter of 20 per cent-plus revenue growth.
At least seven brokerages raised their target price on the stock on Friday by as much as $75, to a high of $700.Google shares were set to open about 4 per cent higher at just over $600.The company, which is also set to benefit from the so-called "internet of things", said on Thursday that second-quarter revenue rose 22 per cent to $15.96 billion, beating the average analyst estimate of $15.61 billion.
Growth was driven by the company's core search business, YouTube and product-listing ads, which combined to drive three times as much mobile traffic for merchants compared with last year, Jefferies analysts wrote in a note.
Brokerage Jefferies maintained its "buy" rating and $700 price target on the stock.Of the 46 analysts covering Google, 36 have a "buy" or a higher rating on the stock and 10 have a "hold". There are no "sell" ratings, according to Star Mine data.Google earns most of its revenue from advt. The number of "paid clicks" by consumers on ads serviced by Google increased 25 per cent year-on-year in the quarter. However, the average price of the ads declined 6 per cent as ad rates on mobile phones are typically cheaper than traditional online ads because of their smaller screens.
"Google is successfully transitioning its business from PC to mobile, and is arguably in a more favourable position in mobile than it was in PC, which should eventually be reflected in a higher multiple," Deutsche Bank analyst Ross Sandler wrote in a client note.Google also owns Android, the world's most-used mobile software, and YouTube, the most popular video-streaming service.
Other online companies such as Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. are also revamping their advertising businesses to take advantage of the shift to mobile devices.
But Google has established unusually deep competitive "moats" around its business through scale, aggressive product innovation and substantial investment, RBC Capital Markets analysts wrote in a research note.
Google's capital investment budget has topped $17 billion over the past five years, and the company has spent about $13 billion on research, according to analysts.
The company is also spending big to push into new markets with innovations such as wearable computers, ultra-high-speed internet access and home automation - the "internet of things."Google shares were trading at $604.33 before the bell, after closing at $580.82 on Thursday.
Up to Thursday's close, the stock had risen 26 per cent in the past year. The stock hit an adjusted life high of $615.03 in February.

Start a Home Health Care Business

What is  Home Health Care?
Home health care is a wide range of health care services that can be given in your home for an illness or injury. Home health care is usually less expensive, more convenient, and just as effective as care you get in a hospital or skilled nursing facility (SNF). Examples of skilled home health services include
Home care, (also referred to as domiciliary care, social care, or in-home care), is supportive care provided in the home. Care may be provided by licensed healthcare professionals who provide medical care needs or by professional caregivers who provide daily care to help to ensure the activities of daily.  In home medical care is often and more accurately referred to as home health care or formal care. Often, the term home health care is used to distinguish it from non-medical care, custodial care, or private-duty care which is care that is provided by persons who are not nurses, doctors, or other licensed medical personnel

CONCEPTS OF HOME CARE SERVICE

"Home care", "home health care" and "in-home care" are phrases that are used interchangeably in the United States to mean any type of care given to a person in their own home. These phrases have been used in the past interchangeably regardless of whether the person required skilled care or not. More recently, there is a growing movement to distinguish between "home health care" meaning skilled nursing care (usually provided by a Home Health Agency) and "home care" (provided by Home care Agency or independent home health aide or caregiver) meaning non-medical care
AIMS OF HOME CARE SERVICES

Home care aims to make it possible for people to remain at home rather than use residential, long-term, or institutional-based nursing care. Home care providers deliver services in the client's own home. These services may include some combination of professional health care services and life assistance services. Professional home health services could include medical or psychological assessment, wound care, medication teaching, pain management, disease education and management, physical therapy, speech therapy, or occupational therapy.

How to start home health care service & worker qualification.

The state department of health issues requirement for that state. Workers can take an examination to become a state tested Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Other requirements in the U.S.A. often include a background check, drug testing, and general references.

Professionals providing care in health care

Professionals providing home care include licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, home health aides, physical therapists, occupational therapists and social workers. Rehabilitation services may be provided by physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists and dietitians.[ Professionals can be independent practitioners, part of a larger organization, or as part of a franchise.
Home care aides, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA's), and caregivers are trained to provide non-custodial or non-medical care, such as help with dressing, bathing, getting in and out of bed, and using the toilet. They may also prepare meals, accompany to medical visits, grocery shop, and a number of other errands
